VIRTUAL BRIDGE HAPPENINGS

The Central Illinois and Southern Illinois/Paducah consortium is still offering several virtual games on BBO. Currently, the games being offered are:

Open Pair Games

   Thursdays:  6:50 pm

   Saturdays:  10:00 am

   Sundays:  6:50 pm  (Open -- 1st, 3rd & 5th Sundays; Mentor/Mentee Pairs: 2nd & 4th Sundays)

Limited Pair Games

   Tuesdays (0-750):  6:50 pm

   Thursdays (0-500):  6:30 pm

   First Friday of the Month:  Limited Mentor/Mentee Game at 10:00 a.m.

FACE-TO-FACE BRIDGE HAPPENINGS

EFFINGHAM REGIONAL TOURNAMENT

Effingham will be holding a Regional during the week of September 19-23, 2023. This is the Effingham Crossroads Regional to be held at the Holiday Inn in Effingham IL.  Next year this tournament will be held during the week of September 17-21 at the Gateway Convention Center in Collinsville IL. Unit 223 Board Meeting Minutes:  June 23, 2023 – Edwardsville IL

The meeting was called to order by President, Pam Ames.  Board members in attendance were Pam Ames, Bob Holdeman, Kadie Davis, Tom and Maxine Wynn and Jay Coleman.  Members not in attendance were Joyce Clark and Janet Jones.  Treasurer Donna Swick and Youth Bridge Camp Representative, Mary Shaw were in attendance.  Joanne Volmer did not attend so Kadie Davis took the minutes for the meeting.

The minutes from the March 2023 meeting were read by Pam Ames.  A motion was made by Kadie Davis and seconded by Maxine Wynn to approve the minutes.  The motion carried.

Treasurer’s Report: A motion was made by Tom Wynn and seconded by Bob Holdeman to approve the report.  The motion carried.

Old Business

Regional Tournament  Pam Ames gave a recap of efforts to secure a venue for the 2024 Regional Tournament.  A motion was made by Tom Wynn and seconded by Maxine Wynn to hold the 2024 Regional in the St. Louis Metro area if a venue could be found with rent less than or equal to $15,000.  The motion carried.

Unit Card Tables: Jay Coleman will try to clean the tables to get rid of the moldy smell. If successful, the tables will be used at the 2023 Effingham Regional.  \Otherwise, Paul will check into renting tables.

Effingham Sectional Tournament in April, 2023:  The April Sectional was poorly attended and resulted in an operating loss.  A motion was made by Kadie Davis and seconded by Bob Holdman for the loss incurred on the Sectional to be paid by the Unit.  The motion passed.

2023 Youth Bridge Camp:  Mary Shaw announced that this year’s camp has been cancelled because of lack of registrations.

Dissolve Unit 223 Discussion:  Georgia Heth will be asked to join the Unit Meeting at the Effingham Regional to discuss the ACBL process to dissolve a Unit.  The board will discuss the pros and cons.

The next meeting will be in September at the Effingham Regional. A motion to adjourn the meeting was made and seconded.
