“What you feed, grows. Rehearse successes, not mistakes.”
All too often players focus on the errors. Fine-tuning a system is one thing. But why not discuss at least one hand per session where you did something truly competent? Or brilliant. Especially if it was your partner’s action!
District 8 Winners: John & Shirley Dicks placed first in District 8 in the World Wide Pairs game held Saturday, June 7,2008. Matched against all the pairs in the entire world, they scored a 60.56% game. Congratulations. (And apologies for omitting this last issue!)
St Louis Regional: Scoring first place in their bracket or flight were more than 70 local players, some of them more than once. You can look them up by clicking here.
Perhaps more encouraging to the rest of us – proving it CAN be done -- were the players who scored First Place ABOVE their ACBL flight levels:

St. Louis Rams vs. Kansas City Chiefs? St. Louis Cardinals vs. Kansas City Royals? No, it’s the Kansas City vs. St Louis Bragging Rights!
These team game matches were begun in 2001 to end the wishful thinking of both St. Louis and KC teams that they were the best in the State. Now we have a way to know, for sure, each year! In true “Show-Me state” tradition, each city selects its teams from members of its Units and they meet in a two-session head-to-head team game on the Saturday of the August Regional held in St. Louis.
Kudos to the St Louis Bragging Rights Unit 143 winners:
Flight C: Chuck & Jane Ettelson; Wojciech Golik & Donald Chase
Flight D: Mike Arnheim, Dorothy Santner, Cheryl Prante, & Daniel Spangler
The Regional at Tunica (Robinsonville, MS) in September is usually a popular – and lucrative one – for Unit 143 members. This year was no exception. For complete results, click here. First place winners from Unit 143 included: Kenneth Bland, Jack Bryant (2x), John Burgener, Karen Erlanger, Linda Evans, Tom Oppenheimer, Jay D Shah, Beryl Shapiro (2x), Marvin Shapiro (2x), Gerald Schneider, Nell Schneider, & Rod Van Wyk (2x).
