In Memoriam

Ray Sigler, a lifelong bridge player from Highland IL, has passed away on May 9. 

He was 86 and is survived by his bridge-playing wife, Elaine.  He recently became a Gold Life Master and served for several years on the Unit Board.

Virtual Bridge Happenings

The Central Illinois and Southern Illinois/Paducah consortium is still offering several virtual games on BBO.   Currently, the games being offered are:

Open Pair Games

   Thursdays:  6:50 pm

   Saturdays:  10:00 am

   Sundays:  6:50 pm  (Open -- 1st, 3rd & 5th Sundays; Mentor/Mentee Pairs: 2nd & 4th Sundays)

Limited Pair Games

   Tuesdays (0-750):  6:50 pm

   Thursdays (0-500):  6:30 pm

First Friday of the Month:  Limited Mentor/Mentee Game at 10:00 a.m.

As you can see, the Limited Mentor/Mentee Game is Back!  It is being held on the First Friday of the month on BBO at 10:00 a.m.  Whether you want to learn bridge, spice up your bidding and play, or would love to have the opportunity to help someone else learn to play – THIS GAME IS FOR YOU!!!!

Our resident Pro, Karen Walker, will be on Zoom immediately after the game to review the hands and answer any questions that you may have. 

This is a perfect opportunity to play in a virtual game with your peers. Mentors will help guide you in defense, play of the hand and bidding. Mentees have less than 200 points. Mentors have less than 1000 points.

FACE-TO-FACE BRIDGE HAPPENINGS

The Longest Day. Clubs can participate in The Longest Day fundraising event by simply selecting one day during the week of June 18-25 to be the Longest Day. On this date, a club may host as many Alzheimer’s games as it would like all day long. Table fees will be donated to the Alzheimer’s Association, and players will receive upgraded masterpoint awards. 

Face-To-Face tournaments are making are making a comeback. Champaign held a regional during the week of May 23-28.  This was the Illini Regional at the Holiday Inn in Champaign. For tournament results, visit the ACBL website.

Effingham will be holding a regional during the week of September 19-23. This is the Effingham Crossroads Regional to be held at the Holiday Inn in Effingham IL. Watch for more information.

There will be a Sectional Tournament in Edwardsville on June 24-26. Here are the details:

Entry fees: $12 per player per session Thurs/Fri
      Saturday Swiss Teams:  $100/team, pre-order lunch (see below).

   Players with 0-5 masterpoints play free in 299er Games.

Local tournament with slightly fewer points, less cost!
