Lou plays regularly in duplicate clubs in Champaign IL and Las Cruces NM, where he spends most of the winter. He hadn't played in a tournament since last year's Illini Regional, but he wasn't as "rusty" as he claimed. He bid well to get to a grand slam on the very first board of the session and won the match. 

Lou and Mike placed third in the Thursday-evening Swiss teams, playing with Joann Schroeder of Normal and Philip Kenney of Eureka.
