There is only one new life master to report, and Dorothy Berg is the lady of the hour. Dorothy is a native Illinoisan, having lived in Pekin, Bloomington and now in Bartlett. She has three daughters and one son.
She began playing bridge in her twenties. Her bridge mentors are Mike Tomlianovich (director in Bloomington) and her daughter, Linda Jacobson (her current partner). Dorothy reports that becoming a life master has been on her bucket list and she advises all bridge players to keep playing and enjoying the game.
Dorothy first joined the ACBL in the 1950s when she partnered with her husband. After their move to Bloomington in 1968, she played party bridge for 37 years, returning to duplicate bridge in 2008. In 2013, she relocated to Bartlett and with her daughter, Linda, as her partner she earned the last 160 points she needed for life master. She and Linda simultaneously reached milestones as Linda is now a bronze life master.
New Junior Masters: Angela Franz, Cary; Raymond Tower, Crystal Lake; Charlotte Irvine, Huntley; Catherine McIntire, Rockford; Tarry Gehrke, Winnebago.
New Club Masters: Joan Fielding, Crystal Lake; Mary Young, Rockford; Carol Ferguson, Roscoe.

New Life Master: Dorothy Berg of Bartlett.

The annual meeting and luncheon for Unit 239 took place on Saturday, April 11, at Jameson’s at Del Webb, Huntley. The room was filled to capacity for member recognitions, lunch and bridge.
A very surprised, mute Will Engel (left) was recognized as the Goodwill Member of the Year. Unit President Marilyn Crawford extolled on Will’s accomplishments not only at the bridge table, but also as a volunteer at regional tournaments. At these tournaments, he helps with the Daily Bulletin, which requires competent computer skills and a willingness to work into the night so that the Daily Bulletin is “hot off the press” for the next morning’s players.
Will has been creating the Daily Bulletin for three years, so
at the next regional look for Will and say “thanks.”
