Paducah-Southern Illinois Regional

The big news in our Unit this month is Unit 223’s Regional Tournament, which will be held Monday, June 18th through Friday, June 27th at Harrah’s Riverfront Casino in Metropolis, IL, just across the river from Paducah.

You can expect the same great hospitality. Once again this year, complimentary food will be served between the afternoon and evening sessions, and tickets that can be used at the snack bar (to purchase a free beverage if you wish) will be distributed.

This year the tournament committee is trying a slightly different schedule; the tournament will run Monday through Friday. The new schedule features various pairs events, KO teams and Swiss Teams.
One of my favorite events is Choice Pairs -- three sessions of play are offered on a given day, of which a pair may choose any two (but only two!) sessions. That means you could choose morning and afternoon Choice Pairs, and be home before dark! Or if you like to sleep in, you could come and play the afternoon and evening sessions. It’s a great, flexible way to play in a regional two-session pairs event and win gold points.

What is meant by a regional two-session pairs event?  The same hands will be played simultaneously by players in Metropolis and at (the other half of our split-regional) Crystal Lake IL, which makes a larger field, and an opportunity to win big for coming in overall!

For those of you who love Swiss Teams, there is an opportunity to play Swiss Tuesday through Friday!

Make plans now to attend our Unit’s regional! Take advantage of the opportunity to win gold points locally and support your Unit. We need a well-attended regional to support the Unit’s programs, and to make the regional attractive to players who travel distances to attend. By supporting the regional, you support your local Unit’s ability to offer you services and programs.

Upcoming Sectional

The Edwardsville Sectional is scheduled for July 27 through July 29 at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 7132 Marine Road in Edwardsville IL. Play commences on Friday at 1:30 pm with Stratified Pairs.
