Since 1964, monies collected for the ACBL Charity Foundation have been contributed to a wide range of charitable organizations.
In 2005, in an effort to better serve local needs, the Charity Foundation began issuing grants to districts rather then giving one lump sum to a Charity of the Year. A number of districts are designated each year in a repeating four-year cycle.
District 8's turn came up in late 2013, and Unit 223 was allocated $6000 to distribute to a local 501C(3) charitable organization.
The Unit 223 Charity Committee selected the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. The contribution will be used to support research aimed at finding a cure for diabetes.
Final standings in the 2013 Mini-McKenney and Ace of Clubs races will be available online at ACBL's website in mid-February. The web site will publish names of players who finished in the top 10 slots in each category, both at Unit level and District level.
Awards for first place in each category will be announced and presented at Kentucky Dam Village Sectional in early March.
