The Effingham Crossroads Regional was held from June 18-24 at the Effingham Holiday Inn. Although the turnout was small, the tournament was a lot of fun and everyone had a good time. The facility was perfect and the tournament was well run.
The total number of masterpoints won was 1754.56 by a total of 204 players. The overall attendance was 306 players. Click here for a full recap of results.
In 2019, the tournament will most likely by held in the fall, although the date has not been finalized. Two people -- Bill Herman and Kae Williams -- became Life Masters during the tournament.
A big thank you to tournament chairmen Lois and Paul Hartke (below left) and to ACBL directors Judy and Dave Cotterman (below right).
Kae Williams started playing duplicate bridge in 1975 in Lake St. Louis MO. Then life happened; she went to work and only played sparsely. After retirement, she returned to duplicate and made Life Master at Effingham on June 21, 2018! |
Bill Herman was first introduced to bridge in college. He played duplicate intermittently until 2010 when he and his wife Jane traveled to Nationals in Memphis and got hooked. At the Effingham regional in June of 2018, he earned his Life Master status. Jane also earned her gold card this year! |
Jane Herman married Bill in 1992 and she took beginning bridge lessons because he strongly urged her to. In 2010, she started playing seriously and traveled to numerous bridge tournaments. In May of 2018, she became a Life Master. |
NEW JUNIOR MASTERS: Nina Jackson of Effingham and David Williams of O’Fallon
NEW SECTIONAL MASTER: John Asunkis of Belleville
