CIBA Digest News from Central Illinois Unit 208 Unit Website: www.unit208.org Editor:
Karen Walker, 2121 Lynwood Drive, Champaign 61821 |
We regret that we have to cancel this tournament for 2020. We hope you'll all join us for next year's Illini Regional -- May 18-24, 2021.
If you have a room
reservation at the Holiday Inn, there is no penalty for cancelling. Holiday Inn
phone is 217-398-3400.
Your Central Illinois club managers have established a "virtual club" on Bridgebase Online for our Central Illinois members. Several clubs from Southern Illinois have also joined us.
We have seven weekly games:
♣ Open Pairs -- Mondays (12:10 pm), Wednesdays (6:50 pm), Thursdays (6:50 pm), Saturdays (12:10 pm) and Sundays (6:50 pm).
♣ Limited Pairs -- 0-500 on Tuesdays (6:50 pm) and 0-300 on Thursdays (12:10 pm).
All games are 18 boards (about two hours) and award ACBL masterpoints at 150% of full club rating. Every time you play, about $4 of your $5 entry fee will go to your local club to help meet expenses during the shutdown.
Full details are here. We hope you can join us!
If you've never played online: See the Quick Start guide in this issue for information on how to join Bridgebase.com (free).
More opportunities: Karen Walker hosts a free online teaching table every Monday from 6:30-8:00 pm on Bridgebase.com. To play or kibitz, log in and join the kwalker table.
We are fortunate to have many Unit members who invest their time in improving our Central Illinois bridge community. They serve as Unit Board members and officers and chairmen of tournaments and special events. Many do small jobs to promote bridge, recruit new players and assist tournament chairmen and club managers in their local areas.
If you'd like to take a leadership role in these activities, I'm inviting you to run for Unit President. My term is up in June and I am retiring. I hope you'll consider this opportunity to contribute your time and talents to our favorite game.
