District 8 bridge players lost a good friend when Bruce Gardner, 56, passed away on February 18 at Norton Suburban Hospital in Louisville KY.
Bruce, who was a writer, lived in
Paducah KY most of his life. He served on the District 8 Board and was chairman
of District 8's Paducah Regional for many years. The tournament became known for
its great hospitality -- not just because of the bar in the hotel suite (Bruce
always advertised "the good stuff"), but because of the company. Bruce and his
co-chair, Robin Lampley, always made everyone laugh and enjoy themselves.
Bruce was a fine player who had a knack for injecting fun into the tournament
atmosphere. He found great humor in our game and was always ready to share
bridge stories and jokes, told with his acerbic wit and charming Kentucky drawl.
Bruce will be missed by all who knew him. Our deepest sympathies go to Bruce's
fiancé, Robin Lampley, and all of his family and friends.
