First, thanks to all local bridge players for participating in the ACBL Nationals held in downtown St. Louis and showing a national audience what fine competitors we are here in St. Louis. It was a rare treat for us to play against such a varied group, and meet some of the best players in the game.
Now, for the exciting local news: Unit 143 is sponsoring a special team game that started April 1. The plan is to have it at 5:00 p.m. on the first Sunday of the month at the American Legion hall. The game in May will be held on April 29, as the first Sunday in May conflicts with the Grand National Teams. The game on April 1 occurred on the Cardinals opening day and we still had 17 teams show up!
The makeup of the teams has a neat twist. It is called "8 is
Enough." Each rating of the players on each team cannot exceed 8 points
according to this formula:
Flight A player (>2000 masterpoints) = 3 pts.
Flight B player (750-2000) = 2 pts.
Flight C player (0-750) = 1 pt.
This will allow you to form groups of very experienced players and very inexperienced novices, hopefully increasing camaraderie and sportsmanship, as well as earning points.
Donna Coker is eminently suited to run this game, as she is also directing a flight C game on Thursday mornings and brings a lot of enthusiasm to the event. This game will help flight C players to streamline into the more competitive open games and play in a new mix.
If you plan to play, would you let Donna know ahead of time? In person, or by
phone (636-386-0128). And if you would like to play but need help getting a team
together, Donna will be happy to help there, too. If you have any questions,
email at Hatlady@prodigy.net
Please print this article and post it at your favorite game to get the word out about this exciting new team event.
Y’all play nice now,
Marie
