The last two months have been busy ones in the world of bridge. Effingham IL hosted a sectional tournament during April 5-7, 2019. The total masterpoints earned were 267.94 by 77 players. The total attendance was 65 tables. The top six winners were: 
   Richard Brummer, Effingham IL -- 16.12 points
   Grant Sterling, Charleston IL -- 16.12
   Donald Florida, Indianapolis IN -- 11.11
   Annette Clark, Indianapolis IN -- 11.11
   Tommy and Maxine Wynn, Paducah KY -- 10.97

Board meeting: During the tournament, the Board of Directors for Unit 223 held one of its meetings. Some items discussed were the Mini McKenney results, the sectional tournament, the upcoming regional tournament, the upcoming youth and adult bridge camps and current bylaws.

The board also discussed a $7500 grant from the ACBL Charity Foundation. Money is given to Units every four or five years and is to be given to non-profit organizations not affiliated with bridge. The board decided to give $5000 to Catholic Charities and $2500 to Illinois CASA.

Sectional Tournament at Clubs

During the week of May 6-12, 2019, StaC games were held at individual clubs throughout District 8. Total silver points earned were 983.78 by 907 players. The total attendance was 681 tables.

Congratulations to Paul Bridges of Swansea IL for leading all players in points won during the week. The top seven winners were:

MARK YOUR CALENDARS !!!

♥  The annual Youth Bridge Camp will be held from June 23-29 at Lake Williamson. Join the Camp for a week of cards and adventure! The camp is held on the beautiful grounds of the Lake Williamson Christian Center in Carlinville IL. The cost of the camp is $450 for 7 days and 6 nights, and it is for youth between 6th and 10th grade. There will be daily bridge as well as many outdoor activities.

♥  There will also be an Adult Bridge Boot Camp from October 21-October 24, 2019 at Lake Williamson Christian Center, Carlinville IL. This is a learn-and-play adult bridge camp for 0-499 non-Life Masters, focusing on the needs of the intermediate player as well as those new to duplicate. EARN SILVER POINTS AT THIS ACBL SECTIONAL TOURNAMENT. Phyllis Siegel is the instructor and director. The camp fee is:  single/$370 – double/$310 each – triple/$270 each.

♥  The Effingham “Crossroads” Regional will be held at the Holiday Inn in Effingham IL from June 17-23, 2019. This is one of our local tournaments and a good way to get those elusive red and gold points.
