SIX new LMs in Champaign

The Champaign club has been celebrating with non-stop Life Master parties this fall as six of our local players made Life Master. Bill Lindemann Sr. got his gold card at a fall sectional in Terre Haute, just a few months before his son, Bill Lindemann Jr., went over by getting his last silver points at a Sectional-at-Clubs game in November. Originally from Alabama, Bill Sr. is retired and Bill Jr. is a programmer for the Institute of Personality and Abilities Testing in Champaign.

Partners Gary Dell and Dan Faulkner won all their gold and black points a few years ago. They went over by placing in a silver-point event during Sectional-at-Clubs week in late October. Both are professors at the University of Illinois -- Gary in psychology and Dan in agriculture.

University of Illinois student Josh Kueker made LM when he and partner Paul Holmes finished second in Flight C of the District 8 North American Pair finals in November. Paul, who is from New Zealand, is a UI graduate student in accounting. He made LM earlier this fall by winning his last black points in a club game at Bridge at Ginger Creek in Champaign.

North American Pairs
Congratulations to all everyone who played in the District 8 North American Pair finals in Springfield in November. Our Unit pairs placed first in all three flights and took second place in another. They all won travel awards to play in the national finals at the Spring NABC in St. Louis in March. Congratulations to:

A1 - Gary Kessler & Dan Requard, Springfield IL

B1 - Gail & Jim Moon, Bloomington IL

C1 - Dan Faulkner, Monticello IL - Gary Dell, Champaign IL

C2 - Josh Kueker - Paul Holmes, Champaign IL

New site for the Illini Champaign Regional

It's not too early to begin thinking about spring and our Unit's annual Memorial Day regional, coming up May 22-28 in Champaign. A full schedule of events is here.

We have a new site this year -- the Hilton Gardens and Homewood Suites, both on the site of the old Chancellor Hotel, where the tournament was held from 1993 to 2005. Both hotels are new construction and the convention center has been completely remodeled.

  Central Illinois Top 100

Here are the top masterpoint holders in Central Illinois Unit 208 and their career point totals as of December 7, 2006. The first 17 players on the list are ranked in the top 100 of all players in District 8 (see the District Top 100 list in this issue).
