Effingham, Illinois Regional Tournament

The Effingham Regional was held from June 19 – 25, 2017. It was a huge success, partly because of the support received from the city of Effingham. The tournament was previously held in the Keller Convention Center but this year the decision was made to hold it in the Holiday Inn. This move saved the unit $5,000, and the facility proved to be more than satisfactory.

There were a total of 373 tables, and all of the people participating loved the venue and the hospitality. There are many reasonable hotels in the area as well as some fun restaurants.  

A huge thanks goes to Paul Hartke, who was the tournament and partnership chair. He worked tirelessly to make sure that this tournament was a success. Hopefully, the tournament will grow to become one of the largest ones in the Midwest.

Next year’s tournament will be held from June 18 through June 24, 2018. Tell your friends to come and enjoy the fun.

New Board of Directors Member

Unit 223 has a new board member, as well as a new secretary. Joyce Clark has graciously agreed to serve as a member of the board, and Joann Volmer will be the new secretary.

They are replacing Karen Coe, who was a longtime board member, and was a huge asset to the board. Karen and her husband have recently moved to Oklahoma, so she had to resign from her position. Although she will be greatly missed, the Board of Directors is looking forward to working with Joyce and Joann.
