Charity begins at home

Ron Sholes of Springfield has been honored with a lifetime appointment to the ACBL National Charity Committee. As a member, he is responsible for promoting our Unit's participation in the ACBL charity program.

Ron is encouraging club managers and tournament chairmen to include more charity games in their schedules. Each year, clubs can hold multiple charity club championships for local and national charities. These games award extra masterpoints for a minimum donation of $1 per player.

Tournaments can also designate specific events for charity. The Illini Regional in Champaign runs four charity sessions, but none of our Unit sectionals are currently including these games.

These events raise considerable funds each year for good causes. Every few years, our Unit is granted a portion of those funds to help local organizations. In 2013, Unit 208 received $6000, which was donated to the Boys and Girls Club of Central Illinois.

If you have questions about any aspect of ACBL or our Unit's charity programs, please contact Ron at srathlete@aol.com.
