JOHN SCHEIBELHUT BRONZE LIFE MASTER
John graduated from Notre Dame in
1952 with a B.S. in Business. After his army service in the Korean War he used
his G.I. bill to attend Indiana University, where he received an MBA degree. The
corporate world called him until 1966, when he began to teach at Oregon
Technical College while pursuing a Ph.D. at the U of Oregon. During this time he
was supporting a family of four children but he and his wife felt the midlife
career change seemed worth the sacrifice.
After finishing his degree, John taught marketing and economics at Concordia University in Montreal, then accepted a professorship at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He was elected Dean of the Business School where he remained for eleven years. During that time he established a business program at Xiamen University in China, where he traveled frequently for teaching or consulting. In 1986 he accepted the deanship of the College of Business at North Dakota State University in Fargo where he retired in 1993.
Johns hobbies are bird hunting,
fly fishing, and duplicate bridge. For 14 years after retirement, he wintered in
New Zealand where he could indulge his passion for both fishing and bridge. He
was awarded his Life Master in 2009, playing with his brother, Dick, in Tucson.
FEBRUARY PRO-AM GAME IN
SOUTH BEND
There were eight tables in play on February 19 for the Pro-Am Game. Sixteen pairs, each consisting of one Life Master bridge player and one Life Master wannabe, competed for the Winners Circle. The competition was exciting, and all the players were helpful and gracious to each other.
