2008 Masterpoint Race Results

Results of the 2008 Masterpoint Races are now final. Awards were presented to the winners who were in attendance at the recent Sectional Tournament at Kentucky Dam Village . Awards for players not in attendance were being hand-delivered. Listed below are the top 3 places in Unit 223 in each category; also included is how our winners placed in the top 25 in each Category in District 8.

Special congratulations to Margie Evans, Donald Klingsick, Kay Jenkins, Bob Biarkis, Terryl Francis and Carol Warner who were double winners, taking home first place in both the Ace of Clubs and Mini-McKenney Races for 2008. Quite an accomplishment!

The McCord Trophy

Also presented at Kentucky Dam Village Sectional was the McCord Trophy, a handsome, engraved traveling trophy which is presented annually to the Unit 223 player who has won the most points at Unit 223 Sectionals. Judy Eaton of Carbondale IL earned 79.02 points during 2008 and won the difficult and prestigious McCord Race, repeating her victory for 2007. A complete list of McCord standings will be published in the next Advocate.

Upcoming Tournaments

The next Unit 223 Sectional will be the Pioneer Sectional Tournament, to be held at Hendelmeyer Park Recreation Center in Effingham IL on April 24-26. The tournament has a new and exciting expanded schedule this year. For the first time, a three-day schedule is being offered. On Friday evening, a new Open Pairs event will be offered at 7 P.M. Saturday, KO Teams (new event!) will be offered, starting at 9 A.M. And on Sunday, if enough novice players will attend, a 99er Swiss Team will be offered. Mark this tournament on your calendar now and plan to attend -- especially all you 99er players! Chairperson for this tournament is Kate Dickens (217-868-5462).

The Edwardsville IL Sectional is coming up on May 29-31 at the Knights of Columbus Hall on Route 143. Chairman is Ruby Nelson always runs a great tournament and she and her local players appreciate your support. A full schedule is here.

The Paducah Champagne Regional will be held at Harrah's Casino in Metropolis IL from Monday, June 22^nd through Sunday, June 28^th. Plan on attending as many events this year as you possibly can. Don't forget this tournament is renowned for its fine hospitality! Maxine Wynn (270-554-5719) is handling partnerships.
